Community BBQ

About the Community BBQ

The CHARA spring BBQ has been an annual tradition for many years. The event is typically held at the Carleton Heights Community Centre in late June or early July. Free food such as burgers, hot dogs, etc. are provided to community members. Entertainment in the form of music, sports, and art also takes place. In the past, Junkyard Symphony, the Ottawa Redblacks, and local henna and face painting artists have joined us. Additionally, a variety of booths, presentations and activities take place throughout the evening!

The 2025 BBQ was a huge success with a record turn out! Community members enjoyed exploring over 10 booths provided by city services, local businesses, community organizations, and artists! New this year, attendees participated in a raffle with funds supporting the rebuild of the Carleton Heights Curling Club after a severe fire earlier this spring. We also collected non-perishable items for the Debra Dynes Family House’s emergency food bank.

The community BBQ is only possible thanks to the support of Councillor Riley Brockington, and the generosity of the following sponsors:

Over 400 community members joined the 2024 BBQ, making it the largest turn out so far! Families and individuals enjoyed free hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, and freezies provided by Grill Master and CHARA volunteers. Children were entertained by Junkyard Symphony, henna, face painting, and soccer while others explored the many community services and organizations present. Some of these included Girl Guides, Scouts, OC Transpo, Ecology Ottawa, OSEAN, and more!

Approximately 250 people attended the July 9th Community BBQ. Hamburgers, hotdogs and drinks were free, funded through CHARA. Drillmaster Express again did the cooking. Children were able to visit a fire truck and a police car and get their questions answered by the drivers. Once again there was an awesome performance by Junkyard Symphony. Everyone was able to visit Councillor Riley Brockington, Crime Prevention Ottawa, Safer Roads Ottawa, Crimestoppers and the Girl Guides. Circus Delights provided the bouncy castle. Volunteer provided coolers and ice. The Carleton Heights Community Centre kept the popsicles frozen. We are very thankful for the volunteers helping to make our community one of the best in Ottawa.
